Starting from Scratch

We started drafting some possible ideas for our title sequence. As of right now, our video will follow alongside a detective who is solving a murder but faces many obstacles and complications while figuring out the crime. We compiled our ideas, props, and possible camera angle shots onto a google doc that I have attached a picture of. These ideas are subject to change as this is only a rough draft. We will continue to brainstorm ideas for this project until the storyboarding and preparation for shooting phases. Prior to research, we would identify our title sequence as one representing a few different genres, including drama, crime, horror, and thriller. It will contain elements of all of these genres, but a more detailed analysis of genre conventions will be discussed later in the research phase. My partner and I both had an interest in shooting a title sequence centered around a mystery storyline. Personally, mystery has always been a favorite genre of mine, both in books and movies, so I was really excited to incorporate this into an academic project. When we started to draft ideas for the plot of the video, we were easily able to come up with the title because we felt that it represented a detective’s purpose in solving a mystery, which is to delve deep into the truth of the matter. As I said earlier, we know the basic plot line of our title sequence, but we still have questions about how to structure it together to display our visions. Our goal is to make it the essence of a mystery movie, with suspenseful elements that may even be a scare to the viewers. With our upcoming research on genre conventions and analyzing other title sequences of movies under these genres, I feel that we will be able to better envision these ideas into a reality.
